In Coronavirus news: Northern Ireland's chief scientific adviser has said he is very concerned at stalled vaccine rates locally. Almost 82% had received a first dose of the jab compared to 87.8% in England, 89.8% in Scotland, 90.5% in Wales by July 18. Of the 18-29 age group, just 56% have come forward for the vaccine.
That news came as it was announced that NI's current vaccination programme will not be available to the public indefinitely. Health Minister Robin Swann explained: "The vaccination programme has been a huge logistical operation," he said. "We set it up with the aim of offering all adults their first jab by July and this has been achieved. "The right time to get your vaccine is right now. A new surge in Covid cases is underway and getting your jab will protect you and others. It will also help our health service cope, by pushing down infection numbers and hospital admissions.
In other news: A community is in mourning following the loss of a 13 year boy. Firefighters discovered the 'traumatic scene' of the father of 13-year-old Jay Moffett trying to retrieve his son from the water near Scarva yesterday. It is understood the boy was swimming in the Canal Court area of the village when he got into difficulties on Monday afternoon. Our thoughts are with Jay's family and friends at this time
