The latest PHA surveillance report reflects the situation in Northern Ireland up to 9.30am on Tuesday April 14. Ten more hospital patients have died across Northern Ireland taking the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 134. The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,967. The Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland is concerned that the deaths of residents in care homes from Covid-19 are not being recorded and has urged the Department of Health to work closely with care homes to address the problem. The news comes after the government confirmed there had been coronavirus outbreaks at more than 2,000 care homes in England, with claims that many older people are being "airbrushed" out of figures because official death rates only include those who die in hospital - and not those in care homes or in their own houses.
