A day after Arlene Foster signalled her intention to stand down as party leader at the end of May, Mr Poots seems to be the most fancied successor with odds of 8/11.
Sir Jeffrey Donaldson is second favourite at 5/4 with Gavin Robinson, the East Belfast MP, at 11/1. The odds on the South Belfast MLA Christopher Stalford have been slashed by the bookmakers on Thursday, and he is now placed at 12/1.
In an interesting intervention, a former MLA, David McIlveen, has warned the DUP leaders that they will need to change more than the leader if they want to change the direction of the party.
Don't miss Friday's News Letter print edition, when we report on the latest developments in the DUP leadership race, and we get former leader Peter Robinson's insight into a dramatic week.
