Army could be deployed to help in NI's battle against Covid

Subscribe              Jan 11, 2021           Dear reader,   The News Letter is at the centre of a new campaign by jpimedia titles calling for community pharmacies to become a frontline part of the UK's coronavirus vaccinations.    Our A Shot in the Arm initiative aims to ensure that every person is just a short walk away from their nearest vaccine centre.    Community pharmacies here have told the News Letter that they are ready and willing to be part of the vaccine roll-out in Northern Ireland.    Our campaign launched as the Department of Health here released fresh details about the number of people in Northern Ireland who have received a coronavirus vaccine.    On Monday, the department revealed that the number of jabs delivered in the Province is now 91,954.   A total of 68,664 people have had a first dose, involving health service staff and care home residents and staff. Another 13,949 have received a second dose.   That is the positive news today as the Department also revealed that another 16 people in the Province with coronavirus have sadly passed away.  Another 759 people with the virus have tested positive in the last 24 hours, which is a sharp decline on recent days.    Northern Ireland's Chief Medical Officer Michael McBride also warned that hospital admissions from coronavirus are set to double over the next week.
