The United Kingdom is looking set for a winter of lockdown-like restrictions after a downbeat series of announcements by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the House of Commons earlier today.
Mr Johnson warned that restrictions will last at least six months in response to the rising numbers of coronavirus cases across the UK over recent weeks.
The Tory leader is set to address the nation over the measures during a television broadcast on Tuesday night.
On Monday Arlene Foster, the Northern Ireland first minister, appeared to have ruled out a return to full lockdown, but speaking on Tuesday morning, the DUP said that was not the case and hinted that a two-week national lockdown, or circuit-breaker, was still on the table.
The Department of Health in Northern Ireland confirmed that another 73 people here have tested positive for Covid-19, meaning that 963 people have recorded positive tests in the last seven days.
One of the most distasteful stories of the day concerns the presenter Stephen Nolan, who revealed he has received death threats. Mr Nolan received a fresh round of abuse on social media after his radio programme on Radio Ulster covered the flagrant flouting of social distancing laws after a GAA match at the weekend.
Enjoy your evening
